Nested in the suburbs of Fairfax County, Virgina, on the Herndon-Reston border, lies a
natural treasure called Margaret's Gardens.  For the last 40 years Margaret Thomas has
opened her magical gardens for the public to enjoy.  A community of photographers,
painters, school groups and local education classes have been welcomed to explore the
grounds of her beautiful property.

Margaret's Gardens is the last open space in this increasingly congested part of Fairfax
County, and a much needed oasis for locals to relax and commune with nature.  Margaret,
after her long service to the community, is taking steps to preserve this five acre treasured
landmark.  Along with a large community of supporters, the effort to save the gardens is
underway.

Our goal is to preserve the open land, including the iris garden, and construct a green
technology building (now the barn) that will be used as an environmental education center.
This new venue will provide a place for the community to learn practical applications for
green-living.

With the fate of Margaret's Gardens now at a turning point, there is a call for community
action and support.  This effort is a wonderful opportunity for us to come together to
preserve this living treasure for the generations to come.
